Its name is derived from the Greek kyanos meaning "blue," as the finest specimens display colors similar to Blue Sapphire. While Kyanite is most commonly blue in color, it can also appear as white, gray, or green. Kyanite is a polymorph with two other minerals; Andalusite and Sillimanite. A polymorph is a mineral that shares the same chemistry but a different crystal structure with another or other minerals.
